			<description>
The Great year shows up again and again in the history of astronomy and generally refers to a full cycle of the equinox or one complete procession of the equinox or in other words the 12 signs of the zodiac precess 360degrees relative to our fixed stars. Since there are 12 signs in the zodiac and each age of the zodiac lasts about 2100 years this amounts to roughly 25,200 years. There are theories out there giving the great year different meaning but the most accepted understanding of the great year remains the full precession of the equinoxes which currently takes 25’765 years – however this changes and is not a constant number of years.

In fact, reality is that an exact duration of the full precession of the equinox cannot be established as it changes over time. At the speed it moves today we calculate the entire great year to be at just under 26’000 years or more exact 25’765 years to complete. As the precessional speed is measured to increase every year the cycle period decreases constantly and we have no astronomical measurements from past cycles of the great year.

The Great Year is talked about and reported on throughout many ancient cultures and mythology, in fact mythological references of the great year are so strongly reflected throughout ancient mythology that I have to wonder just how many astronomers have already thought about the Great Year a few cycles back.

The Greeks broke the Great Year into four ages which are well known to this day. The Iron age, Bronze age, Silver age and the Golden Age. These are ascending and descending stages of the great year. Far from the Greek culture and recognition of the Great Year the Indian Yuga cycle also describes the Great Year and again breaks it into four periods, the Kali the Dvapara the Treta and Satya. These for Yugas together amout to 24,000 years in the Indian mythology, split into 12,000 years of ascending and 12,000 years of descending cycles of the Great Year.

There are countless other mythological references to the Great Year with hundreds of cultures leaving behind their observation of the different ages and the precession of the equinox.

Humans capabilities ascending and descending with the great yearOnce thing most of the ancient observations of the Great Year seem to have in common is a constant rise and fall of the human civilisation according to the ascending and descending stages of the Great Year. While the Golden Age is reported to bring humanity peace, health, longevity and complete understanding of God and their world, the Iron age brings despair hunger and violence. In our time and day of the Great Year we are not "far" from entering the Golden Age and we are leaving the age of pisces and entering the age of aquarius in a handful of years.

There are many speculations as to why these spiritual and cultural ascension and dissension happens throughout the Great Year and in fact many of us suspect that humanity at their peak of development (during past golden ages) would have tried to leave us clues and information to bring us through or avoid the dark ages of the Great Year. Without much success though, however from ancient Egypt to our Christian Bible these hints and references are everywhere you look. Particularly the Bible is by many understood to be an astrological description of the Great Year more than anything else.

A constant factor throughout the great year seems to be the changing time which also explains why the great year cannot be properly calculated. A common theory within the Great Year debate is that time itself changes throughout the Great Year Cycle. While time contracts and seemingly flows faster during the descending cycle of the Great Year it expands and flows slower throughout the ascending half of the Great Year. In other words in the Golden Age human lifes would be infinitely longer – even if we lived the same number of years and days as in the iron age. The much longer lasting second could itself explain the increased quality and meaning in human life. There would simply be much more room to contemplate responses or interaction throughout the Golden Age of the Great Year. Maybe in this time humanity is able to use and access its full brain power. As we know today we only use a fraction of our estimated brain power.

The Great Year – in a binary Solar SystemRelated to the Great Year is the very common theory that earths sun is in a binary system and therefore earth has 2 suns despite us not even having spotted it so far. The binary twin of our sun may not even be a bright star but a dark object and it’s heavenly trajectory is said to be closely related to the Great Year and may be exerting the time changing effects throughout the Great year as described before.
