Most likely you will be familiar with the 11 year solar cycle culminating in a solar pole shift every 11 years. The magetic field flips 180 degrees. The next solar magnetic pole switch is due in december 2012. This will cause strong solar flares which do pose a threat to our planet as sometimes a large solar flare called coronal mass ejection is sent out into space. We will just have to hope it will not be hurled at earth.
Anyway beyond the 11 yearly normal risk of being fried by the sun there is more to the significance of the solar cycle coming up in 2012.
On December 21. 2012 the 2 biggest planets in our solar system, Saturn and Jupiter will line up and the gravitational effect this line up on the sun will have impacts onto the sun while it undergoes its regular pole shift. Maybe this makes no difference but it could well be that this change in gravitational forces causes some of the mentionned coronal mass ejections we really don't need down here on earth as we are well equipped with microwaves already.
Secondly for the first time in a very long time on an astrological scale the earth's magnetic north pole is aligned with the sun's south pole. The sun's pole switching, combined with the Saturn and Jupiter influence may cause the earth poles to switch aswell which would cause massive devastation here on earth starting with huge earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. After this pole switch - which by the way has happened regularly on earth so far - the compass will point south and the sun will rise in the west.
Beyond this magnetic pole switch which would eventually pretty much leave us as things were before we could experience a polar wandering where the tropics would shift for example to the North pole or the US end up in ice. In such a scenario not much of our known world would remain with new climate structures setting in everywhere after the pole switch event in 2012.
Let's just hope for the regular 11 yearly solar pole switch on december 21, 2012.
